Chapter 1: The Overture
Creativity is the curative and preventative medicine missing from our product-driven society.
How to Follow the Creative Fire 10-week program:
1- On your own
For the first 2 weeks, read the first two sections the Gathering and Laying the Foundation. Then use the next 8 weeks to work through the related exercises in the Light the Fire Section.
2- With a Group
Form a group for a duration of 10-12 weeks. Use the first 2 weeks for introductions and reading of the first two sections. Use weeks 3-10 for check-ins and doing some of the exercises. Use weeks 11 and 12 for showcases of performances and creative projects.
Chapter 2: The Movements
The following is a short outline of the subsequent chapters that explore the various activities and artforms you’ll use to realign your spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
The Activities that Lead Back to a Creative Nature:
- Authentic Movement - dance, exercise, or martial arts
- Sounding - singing, speaking, drumming, using instruments
- Drawing and Painting - sketching, drawing, doodling, painting
- Clay - intentional play and overcoming perfectionism
- Acting - improvisation, role-playing, emotional authenticity
- Photography and Collage - collecting and capturing life details
- Personal Art Forms - crafts and hobbies
- Writing, Poetry, and Language - daily writing, expressive techniques
Chapter 3: The Instruments of Self-Care
In this section, we will create a “combo” of self-care that will clear the decks of unhealthy clutter and bring forth your creative abilities and urges. The Combo Process is designed to help you create personal rituals and release what has been holding you back.
The 4 Elements of a Creative Self-Care Combo includes:
- Care of the Soul - Emotional bassline that keeps us feeling grounded and centered
- Care of the Spirit - Spiritual rhythm that helps us develop an inner place of calm from which creativity can grow
- Care of the Body - Physical state and heartbeat that keeps us vibrant and engaged with a creative life
- Care of the Solo - Developing an awareness and ease of expression of your unique gifts
Maintaining a Healthy Creative Combo
- The human mind and psyche demand the regular release of tension and rituals to create order.
- Without them, our unconscious mind automatically creates dysfunction.
- With a daily commitment to your soul, spirit, body, and solo care you learn to make choices based more on what you want than on other’s expectations of you.
